Activists express their indignation about verdict against Cheldiev and his associates

A court’s refusal to grant complaints against the sentences of Vadim Cheldiev, Arsen Besolov, and Ramis Chirkinov outraged activists who came to Sochi to support the accused. Vadim Cheldiev was persecuted by officials and law enforcers, and he had to leave for Saint Petersburg, but he was detained there, too, his mother Nadezhda Cheldieva noted.

Earlier, a court in Sochi refused to grant the complaints filed against the verdicts to Vadim Cheldiev, Arsen Besolov, and Ramis Chirkinov.

On July 19, the Rostov-on-Don court sentenced Vadim Cheldiev to ten years of imprisonment in a penal colony, finding him guilty of inciting extremism. Arsen Besolov and Ramis Chirkinov were sentenced to eight years of imprisonment in a penal colony.

Mikhail Nart, an activist of the human rights organization “Don”, notes that he made a decision to participate in the case as he considered the situation “an arbitrariness.”

Nikolai Tsirikhati, the leader of the human rights organization “Don”, emphasizes that the mother of Vadim Cheldiev suffers from heart desease, and she should be protected from any worries, but the woman repeatedly came out in defence of her son.

Vadim Cheldiev stated that the law enforcement bodies persecuted him long before his detention, trying, in particular, to interfere with the charitable activities of the movement “Iron Ziu”. Vadim Cheldiev also reported that he left North Ossetia after learning about plans to plant drugs to him. Vadim Cheldiev was one of the initiators of the protest actions demanding the closure of the “Electrozinc” plant.

According to the investigators’ version, Vadim Cheldiev wan the initiator of a rally held by opponents of the self-isolation regime in Vladikavkaz, and the activist was included in the list of extremists.

Let us remind you that on April 20, 2020, the police dispersed the protest action of opponents of the self-isolation regime, who demanded the resignation of the government, the parliament, and the leader of North Ossetia. According to the investigators’ version, thirteen employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the “Rosgvardiya” (National Guard of Russia) were injured.
