PO demands from MIA to consider application about harsh detention in Makhachkala

The Prosecutor's Office (PO) has sent a complaint to the Dagestani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) against the law enforcer, who had hit a protester in Makhachkala. The law enforcers should be punished publicly, and residents should react to unreasonably harsh detentions, Arsen Magomedov, a lawyer, has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 26, law enforcers stopped an anti-mobilization protest action held in Makhachkala; at least 150 people were detained. Idris Yusupov, a journalist, said that law enforcers had conducted detentions with excessive rudeness. However, the local MIA found no violations in law enforcers' actions, as they who hit an immobilized protester during the detention, Arsen Magomedov has reported.

Ratmir Sovzikhanov, a paramedic from Makhachkala, who accompanied a patient in an ambulance, was hospitalized after being beaten up by law enforcers. It seemed to them that Ratmir was filming the anti-mobilization action to his phone. About 30 criminal cases of the use of violence against state officials are being investigated in Makhachkala in connection with the above protests; two persons have been arrested, human rights defenders have informed.

Arsen Magomedov, a lawyer, wrote in his Telegram channel that Dagestani residents and activists must react to violations of the law by law enforcers; otherwise their actions will go beyond what is permitted.

Magomedov demanded that the law enforcer, who had hit a protester during detention, be punished publicly. "The main point is for the mass of policemen to understand that authorities had not allowed beating up helpless people in public," he has stated.
