Court in Dagestan finds arrest of journalist Sevrinovsky groundless

The Dagestani Supreme Court (SC) has cancelled the resolution on the arrest that Vladimir Sevrinovsky had served after his detention in Makhachkala, and sent the case for reconsideration.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 5, journalist Sevrinovsky was released from the special detention centre after serving his five-day arrest. According to his story, he was detained with the use of force, and the policemen had ignored the fact that he had come to cover the rallies in Makhachkala under his journalistic assignment.

The Dagestani SC has overturned the decision on Sevrinovsky's guilt and his sentence to five days of arrest, the journalist said on the Facebook*. According to his story, the court sent his case for retrial.

After his release, the journalist said that law enforcers asked him to show his documents when he was walking down the street. When he asked about the reasons for detention, he was forced into a car. He has also noted that the protocol on his offense, according to which he used foul language in a public place, was drawn up "on the basis of perjury."

Let us remind you that on September 25 and 26, large-scale anti-mobilization actions were held in Makhachkala. Law enforcers also detained the journalists who covered the protests. In particular, Idris Yusupov, a journalist of the "Novoye Delo" outlet, and Sergei Ainbinder, the editor-in-chief of the "RusNews", who had come to cover the action, were detained. Mr Ainbinder reported that he was beaten up and his equipment was broken.
