Verdict to Ingush activist, Bagaudin Myakiev, upheld

The appeal instance has found no grounds for overturning the sentence passed to Bagaudin Myakiev, convicted after clashes with law enforcers at a protest rally in Magas.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Bagaudin Myakiev, a member of the Council of Teips (family clans) of the Ingush people, was detained in April 2019, and on February 20, 2020, was sentenced to 1 year and 10 months in custody. Myakiev had served his term in full and was released in August 2020.

On March 26, 2019, a large-scale rally was held in Magas (the capital of Ingushetia) against the border agreement with Chechnya. The protesters would not go home after the rally; and law enforcers tried to disperse them, after which they launched the criminal prosecution of the participants. Bagaudin Myakiev admitted that at a rally in Magas in March 2019 he threw chairs in the direction of law enforcers, but stated that he did not aim at "Rosgvardiya" (Russian National Guard) fighters.

On April 22, 2020, the prosecutor's office saw a political motive in Myakiev's actions.

Myakiev is a lawyer by education; and he began to actively engage in social activities after the rallies of 2018.

After his release from the colony, Bagaudin Myakiev himself has repeatedly held actions in support of political prisoners. Thus, on January 11, 2021, he held a picket at the administration of the head of Ingushetia demanding to release political prisoners from jails.
