Court recognizes violations at waste landfill in Poltavskaya village

The court has granted a claim filed by the Prosecutor’s Office and obliged a company engaged in monitoring a waste landfill in the village of Poltavskaya to install treatment facilities there and eliminate other violations against which local residents are protesting.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that residents of the village of Poltavskaya in the Krasnoarmeisky District are complaining about environmental problems arising because of the waste landfill where household waste from other districts is collected. The local residents created a public council under a slogan “Against the waste landfill in Poltavskaya”. On September 5, protesting villagers blocked the road for garbage trucks.

The road to the waste landfill passes through all the streets of the village. Private houses are located 5-10 meters from the road on both sides of it. Garbage trucks with trailers drive along the streets around the clock and disturb the peace of residents, although the authorities promised to build a bypass road and set up signs prohibiting the trespassing of large vehicles, activist Sergey Salnikov reports. The operation of the waste landfill is organized with violations, lawyer Yuri Vaskanyants and ecologist Yevgeny Vitishko point out.

The Krasnoarmeisky District Court has granted in full the claim filed by the Prosecutor’s Office and ordered the public utility services to provide the waste landfill in the village of Poltavskaya with a biogas removal system and install a drainage system and local treatment facilities, the Prosecutor’s Office of the Krasnodar Territory reports.
