Dagestani villagers have to build water supply line by themselves

Residents of the highland village of Kharakhi in Dagestan have raised money and almost completed the construction of an 11-kilometre-long water pipeline after officials stated that they had no budget for that. Instagram* users have noted that problems with utility lines in Dagestan is widespread; and local residents often have to solve them on their own.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 3, 2020, residents of the highland village of Kharakhi complained that they had been left without water supply after the water line got frozen. They added that were forced to solve the water supply problem by themselves.

The water supply line to the village of Kharakhi was designed in the early 1980s; its service life has expired. The threat of being left without water forced the villagers to build a water pipeline at their own expense, the NTV channel reports.

Social network users have reproached officials for their indifference to the villagers' problem.

"This is the authorities' attitude to needs of the population. They immediately find money for parades and authorities' support. But they fail to build a simple was supply line," the user magomed_rasul_u was indignant.

Other commentators have stressed that in other districts of Dagestan, people are also forced to solve their utility supply problems by themselves.
