Sochi prosecutor's office demands real prison term for fakes about army

The prosecutor's office has filed an appeal against the verdict passed to Evgeny Zolotov, a Sochi doctor, who was sentenced to a fine for spreading fakes about the army. The supervisory authority (the office) has treated the sentence as inappropriate to the gravity of the crime.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Sochi court found Zolotov's publications in social networks as fakes about the Russian Army and imposed a fine of three million roubles on him, although the state prosecutor demanded six years in prison for the doctor.

The prosecutor's office has challenged the verdict, finding it too lenient and demanded to sentence the doctor be sentenced to six years of real imprisonment, the "Kavkaz.Realii"* project has reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported about a number of criminal cases initiated against activists, journalists and politicians under the new article enforced on March 4, 2022, for spreading false information about the Russian Army. Thus, such cases were initiated against Isabella Evloeva, an Ingush journalist, Altan Ochirov, an employee of the Elista Mayoralty, and Sergey Reznik, a Rostov journalist.
