In Grozny, court leaves Zarema Musaeva under arrest until December 12

In Grozny, a court pronounced a decision to extend the arrest of Zarema Musaeva, a spouse of former federal judge Saidi Yangulbaev, for three months. This was reported by the “Team Against Torture”*.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on August 16, a judge did not grant the defenders’ request to change the territorial jurisdiction of the case against Zarema Musaeva, accused of fraud and an attack on a law enforcer. The human rights project “Support for Political Prisoners” recognized Zarema Musaeva as a political prisoner.

On January 20, Zarema Musaeva, the spouse of Judge Saidi Yangulbaev, was taken by law enforcers from Nizhny Novgorod to Grozny.

On February 11, Zarema Musaeva’s son Abubakar Yangulbaev pointed out that his mother was suffering from diabetes and that penal colonies could not contain people with that disease. Doctors were invited several times to the trial and the SIZO (pre-trial prison) for Zarema Musaeva. According to her relatives, Zarema Musaeva is getting worse in detention.

Read the “Caucasian Knot” reference material “How Yangulbaevs became Kadyrov’s enemies” to find how the conflict began, what accusations Ramzan Kadyrov voiced, what the Yangulbaev family answered the leader of Chechnya, and what role in the development of the situation was played by an opposition Telegram channel.

Earlier, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov accused the Yangulbaev family of supporting terrorism and said that a place awaited them “in prison or underground.” State Duma member from Chechnya Adam Delimkhanov threatened the Yangulbaev family with reprisals. After that, Saidi Yangulbaev and his children left Russia.
