Elista resident fined for discrediting militaries

In Kalmykia, the Elista City Court has fined Sergey Petkiev by 30,000 roubles on charges of discrediting the Russian Armed Forces.

Employees of the Centre for Combating Extremism (CCE) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Kalmykia drew up a protocol under the article on discrediting militaries against Sergey Petkiev for posting a photo with a pacifist poster in the Facebook* social network, the "Kavkaz.Realii"** reported on September 2.

It should be noted here that the maximum punishment under Part 1, Article 20.3.3, of the Russian Code of Administrative Offenses (public actions aimed at discrediting the use of the Russian Armed Forces) is a fine of 50,000 roubles.

*On March 21, 2021, the Tverskoi Court of Moscow banned the activities of the "Meta" Company (that owns the Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp) in Russia in connection with extremist activities.

**The outlet has been included by the Russian Ministry of Justice into the register of foreign media outlets acting as foreign agents.
