Threats to deprive social care used as recruiting method in Chechnya

Officials will take Ramzan Kadyrov's words about depriving the families of those who refused to go to serve in law enforcement bodies as a guide to action; such methods of pressure indicate a shortage of people who want to get enrolled in new structures, Svetlana Gannushkina and Ruslan Kutaev, human rights defenders, have pointed out.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Kadyrov had ordered to deprive the low-income families of Chechnya, whose young people refused to go for service in new Chechen units, of social benefits.

In July, it became known about the involvement of Imams in recruitment to law enforcement bodies in Chechnya; this suggests that this work has become unpopular due to the special operation in Ukraine, analysts have suggested.

Kadyrov's words about the deprivation of the families of those who refused to get enlisted for service of social care sound like a guide to action for officials, Svetlana Gannushkina, the chair of the "Civic Assistance" Committee*, is sure. She has suggested that Chechnya faces problems with recruitment of people into new units.

"Of course, people don't want to [go to the military operation]. They want to live," she has stressed.

In the opinion of Ruslan Kutaev, the President of the "Assembly of Caucasian Nations", the families of those who have refused may be under pressure after Kadyrov's words, which will become a guide to action for officials.
