Armenian soldier wounded on contact line

As a result of a violation by Azeri militaries of the ceasefire regime in the Gegarkunik Region, an Armenian soldier was wounded, the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 3, Baku announced the "Retribution" operation launched in Nagorno-Karabakh in response to the killing of an Azerbaijani soldier. On August 6, Azerbaijan announced the capture of a strategic height in the conflict zone.

Earlier, Azeri militaries had occupied the Sarybaba heights in the Shusha District and Gyrkhgyz heights in the Khodjaly District. This gave Azerbaijan a strategic advantage, additional control over the Lachin Corridor, capability to prevent any possible transfer of troops from Armenia to Karabakh, and establish a checkpoint right on the road from Armenia to Karabakh, Azerbaijani experts have noted.

At night on August 7, one violation of the ceasefire regime by Azerbaijani militaries was recorded in the responsibility zone of Russian peacemakers; an Armenian soldier was wounded, says the website of the Russian MoD.
