Defence complains about ban on visits to Chechen gay Salekh Magamadov

Advocate Alexei Nemov was denied a visit to Salekh Magamadov, a convicted native of Chechnya, and informed that the convict was allegedly not in prison. Alexei Nemov filed a complaint about the non-admission to the client.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on May 11, the Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya refused to commute the punishment of Salekh Magamadov and his brother Ismail Isaev, convicted of aiding and abetting a militant. On June 7, it became known that the brothers had been transferred from the Grozny SIZO (pre-trial prison). On July 1, Salekh Magamadov was brought to the “Vladimirsky Central” prison, and Ismail Isaev was taken to the SIZO in Krasnodar.

On February 22, a court in Chechnya sentenced Salekh Magamadov to eight years and Ismail Isaev – to six years of imprisonment. According to the investigators’ version, the brothers gave bread, juice, tea, and chocolate to a militant from the Aslan Byutukaev’s grouping. The brothers said they were forced to sign fabricated confessions.

The accusations of the brothers of helping the militant are ridiculous, since the law enforcement bodies suspected the gay and the transgender person, who were mocking religion, of aiding and abetting a supporter of a radical movement of Islam, Elena Milashina, an observer of the newspaper “Novaya Gazeta”, points out.
