Lawyers explain procedure for checking application about forced retention of Makhachkala citizen's wife

Makhachkala policemen must check Nimatula Magomedkamilov's application that his wife and children were forcibly detained by relatives and transfer the materials to another police station, if his family members are kept in another district of Dagestan, lawyers have explained. The intervention of Imams in settling family conflicts is permissible to save the family, an Imam of one of Makhachkala mosques has explained.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 5, Nimatula Magomedkamilov informed that his wife's brothers took her with three small children away to the mountains and kept her without communication, demanding to hand over the children to them.

Shakhban Shamsudinov, the Imam of the Tlyaratin District, whom Magomedkamilov asked to intervene in the situation, said that his wife had complained about beatings by him, but still defended her husband and wanted to stay with him.

When dealing with family conflicts, the Imam is obliged to hear both sides and try to save the family, while he cannot oblige the parties to comply with the decision made during the proceedings, the Imam of one of the mosques has clarified.

In Islam, it is forbidden to beat a wife; while a husband can express his dissatisfaction in another way – by instructing or stopping communication with his wife for a certain time, the clergyman has explained, adding added that attempts to "split the family", as in Magomedkamilov's case, are undertaken by relatives in extreme cases, usually in order to save the family; they first put forward the conditions for the husband to correct his behaviour.
