Blogger Insa Lander voices reason for her escape from Russia

Insa Lander, a blogger from Kabardino-Balkaria, decided to escape from house arrest, as she realized that she would not be able to prove by legal methods that she was not guilty on the charge of promoting terrorism. The blogger intends to undergo medical treatment in Lithuania.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on June 12, Insa Lander tried to leave for Georgia through North Ossetia, but border guards did not let her in. On June 27, the Georgian authorities permitted Inse Lander to enter the country, from there she flew to Lithuania. The case against the person suspected of promoting terrorism will be frozen, advocate Dmitry Zakhvatov suggests.

“In the legal field, I would not be able to defeat the FSB ... I did not intend to go to jail for a crime that I did not commit,” the blogger emphasized.

Insa Lander spent two weeks in neutral zone on the Russian-Georgian border, as she “had a misunderstanding” with the Georgian authorities, which gradually “faded away.”

According to the blogger, she hopes to continue publishing posts in her blog or other media.

Advocate Dmitry Zakhvatov explained that Insa Lander was under stress and she had a “misunderstanding” with Georgian border guards. “Besides, Georgia is reluctant to let residents of North-Caucasian republics into its territory,” the advocate noted.

Earlier, residents of Chechnya, Dagestan, and Ingushetia have reported that Georgian border guards refuse entry to natives of Northern Caucasus without explaining the reasons.

The advocate has added that the human rights organization “Right of Georgia” appealed to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) with a complaint about the Georgia’s failure to comply with international agreements on refugee status.
