Activist arrested in Azerbaijan for inscription on wall in support of Bagirzade’s demands

Three religious activists were detained in Sumgait after they wrote on a wall in a public place the slogan reading: “Punish those who insult Allah!” in support of Talekh Bagirzade’s demands. One of the activists were sentenced to ten days of arrest, and two others are being kept in Sumgait police departments.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on June 3, Talekh Bagirzade, the convicted leader of the “Muslim Unity” movement, went on a hunger strike, demanding to punish the law enforcers, who, according to supporters of the “Muslim Unity” movement, were blaspheming while torturing believers. By June 16, other 12 prisoners were participating in the hunger strike in solidarity with Talekh Bagirzade.

On June 18, three religious activists Yasin Akhmedov, Vugar Aliev, and Nidjat Aliev were detained after writing the slogan reading: “Punish those who insult Allah!” on a wall in a public place in the city of Sumgait. Relatives of the activists did not know anything about their whereabouts, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent was informed by Arzu Abdulla, the head of the Committee for the Protection of Islamists’ Rights.

“It was not until the other day when the family members of the activists managed to find out that they had been detained by the police. At the same time, on June 19, the Sumgait City Court arrested Yasin Akhmedov in an administrative order for 10 days. Vugar Aliev and Nidjat Aliev are being held in the police departments of Sumgait, and they are likely to be also sentenced to administrative arrests,” said Arzu Abdulla.

According to the head of the Committee for the Protection of Islamists’ Rights, the activists protested against the insult of God by the law enforcers.
