About 100 films included into programme of "Golden Apricot" Festival in Yerevan

At the 19th International Film Festival "Golden Apricot", which will open on July 10, spectators will see films from around the world, including from Armenia, the organizers have announced.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at the 2019 "Golden Apricot" Festival the main prize went to the British film director, Richard Billingham, for the film "Ray and Liz". Film directors from Armenia, Georgia and the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) were among the laureates. There is no such notion as "the Caucasian cinematography", but the work of Caucasian filmmakers is influenced by regional problems and countries' interrelations, film critics believe.

This year, about 100 films will be presented at the festival, the administration has announced.

The festival will open with the Armenian-American film "The American" by Michael Gurdjyan; the film is about little Charlie, who, fleeing the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Turkey, ended up in America. Michael Gurdjyan is a writer, film director and actor of Armenian descent.

The festival organizers claim that in the "premiere" category, spectators will see films from the Cannes, Berlin and other international film festivals.

This year, the "Golden Apricot" will be notable not only for film quality, but also for the number of famous guests, Arutyun Khachatryan, the festival director, has noted. Albert Serra, a Spanish film director, the winner of the Cannes Film Festival, and Ilya Khrzhanovsky, the author of the DAU Project, are among them.
