Students' protests fail to convince TSU bosses to allow online exams

Despite prolonged protests held by students of the Tbilisi State University (TSU) and the promise of its Academic Council to allow exams to be taken remotely, the TSU top managers have announced that final exams would be held in person.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 10, TSU students held a protest action, demanding to preserve the online training format. They claimed that the cost of renting housing in Tbilisi is too high. On June 11, students captured the rector's office; and some university staff suffered. On June 12, students agreed to unblock the office in exchange for the resignation of the rector and a meeting with the Minister of Education of Georgia.

"The final exams at all TSU departments will begin on June 20. Exams will be held in classrooms and examination centres in order to ensure an objective assessment of students' knowledge and creating equal conditions," the "News-Georgia" quotes TSU bosses as stating.

The TSU administration has urged students to leave the rector's office, start negotiating and discuss all "the topical issues", the "Georgia-Online" reports.
