Resident of Baku detained for graffiti with letter Z

The police detained Alexander Saprykin, a resident of Baku, suspecting him of depicting the letter Z on the wall of the State Historical-Architectural Reserve “Icherisheher”. The man faces administrative responsibility.

On June 13, the letter Z, symbolizing support for the Russian special military operation in Ukraine, was painted on the fortress wall in the Reserve “Icherisheher”.

The police identified the man who damaged the wall as Alexander Saprykin, a 67-year-old Baku resident, the “Minval.Az” reported.

The “Caucasian Knot” has also reported that Vasily Gokov, a 64-year-old pensioner from Stavropol, was beaten after he drew the letter Z in support of the Russian Armed Forces on his own and neighbouring fences.

Earlier, it was reported that in Pyatigorsk, the letter Z on the slope of Mount Mashuk was damaged. On May 29, Ramazan Suleimanov, a native of Gudermes, apologized for damaging the letter. A video of his apology was posted on Telegram.

On February 22, before the start of the special military operation in Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev signed the Declaration on Allied Cooperation. According to political analysts, the Declaration obliges Baku to comply with the Moscow’s interests and creates a risk of complicating Azerbaijan’s relations with Turkey as a member of NATO.
