Social media users argue about idea of creating a “committee to combat obscenity” in Northern Caucasus

An initiative has been sent to the presidential plenipotentiary office to create a “committee to combat obscenity” to ban performances of undesirable artists in Northern Caucasus, reports Saipuddin Guchigov, the head of the “Our Home is the City of Grozny” movement. Some social media users welcomed the idea, while others found it too harsh.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on June 1, Saipuddin Guchigov demanded to ban Filipp Kirkorov from performing in the Caucasus after the number in which the singer was dancing on a cross. On June 7, it was reported about the cancellation of Filipp Kirkorov’s concerts in the cities of Stavropol and Maikop.

“We will be gradually cleaning our stage and TV screens from dirt and obscene commercials and films,” Saipuddin Guchigov wrote on his “VKontakte” page.

It is assumed that the “committee to combat obscenity” will decide which artists are allowed to perform in Northern Caucasus. According to Saipuddin Guchigov, the list of unwanted artists will include, in particular, Philip Kirkorov, Olga Buzova, Boris Moiseev, Sergey Shnurov, as well as “TV channels that promote same-sex love,” the “Kavkaz. Realii”* reports.

Some users wrote in their comments that the initiative was inappropriate. “The main thing is not to overdo it with patriotism, as it often happens. Instilling love for the Motherland, for the multinational culture of Russia, traditional values, and not for some party or person,” user Maxim Burdin wrote.
