Two employees of “Sputnik-Azerbaijan” deprived right to reside in country

Veronika Antonova-Trizno, the editor-in-chief of the “Sputnik-Azerbaijan” news agency, and the agency’s correspondent Pavel Antonov have been deprived of the right to temporary residence in Azerbaijan.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on June 3, the website of the “RIA Novosti” became unavailable in Azerbaijan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan explained the blocking by the fact that the news agency disseminated information directed against the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. On June 5, the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister confirmed the version of the Russian side and said that the “RIA Novosti” website was blocked in Azerbaijan in connection with the publication of an interview with State Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh Artak Beglaryan.

Today, the Migration Service of Azerbaijan has announced the termination of the right to temporary residence in the country of two citizens of Belarus – Veronika Antonova-Trizno and Pavel Antonov. The decision was made on June 6, the Migration Service of Azerbaijan reported on its official website.

Veronika Antonova-Trizno works as the editor-in-chief of the “Sputnik-Azerbaijan” news agency, and her husband Pavel is a correspondent for the same media outlet.

The “Rossiya Segodnya” international media group is the founder of the “RIA Novosti” online publication and “Sputnik” projects in different countries of the world, follows from the information posted on the media group’s website.

Elnur Kalantarli, a spokesperson for the Migration Service of Azerbaijan, refused to explain to the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent the reason for the termination of the temporary residence permit for the spouses from Belarus. According to Elnur Kalantarli, information about the reason for refusing residence permit is personal and is communicated only to its recipients.
