In Nazran, court orders forced migrants to move out of barrack

A court in Magas has satisfied the demand of the Nazran Mayoralty to evict eight families of forced migrants from a barrack. Their advocate asserts that evicting disabled people who have no other housing is contrary to the law.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that back on April 13, 2019, the forced migrants, or internally displaced persons (IDPs), from the Prigorodny District of North Ossetia, living in three barracks in Nazran, received demands from Mayoralty officials to move out. Fifteen families were under the threat of being left without a roof over their heads. The barrack residents said that they had nowhere to go, since they were not provided with any alternative housing; and it was impossible to buy any for the money allocated to refugees.

In the autumn of 1992, in the Prigorodny District of North Ossetia, an armed conflict broke out between Ossetians and Ingushes. According to the prosecutor's office, 583 people perished; 939 others were injured; and 261 more were treated as missing. According to various estimates, from 30 to 60 thousand residents of the Ingush nationality were forced to leave the territory of their historical residence, settling mainly in the neighbouring Ingushetia.

Now, a court in Ingushetia has ruled to evict eight families from the barrack they live in without providing them with any alternative housing, the team of the former Human Rights Centre "Memorial"* has reported on its Telegram channel.

The Nazran Mayoralty has pointed out that the people living in barracks do no city registration; therefore, authorities cannot register them as those in need of housing and help them.
