Marchers reveal details of harsh detentions at protests in Armenia

Law enforcers are regularly showing cruelty towards activists; after detentions, many protesters need doctors' help, suffered Yerevan activists have complained.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Armenian opposition has been holding protest actions since April 25. On May 27, the "Resistance" movement held motor rallies to the cities of Spitak and Sevan, during which the traffic was temporarily blocked. Three protesters were detained.

Karo Airapetyan, a supporter of the ARF (Armenian Revolutionary Federation) "Dashnaktsutyun", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that on May 3, his shoulder was broken during the dispersal of a disobedience action held at the intersection of Moskovyan and Abovyan Streets in Yerevan.

"I felt pain in my shoulder. When they put me into a car, I told them to call an ambulance. I understood that I had a fracture, but law enforcers ignored my request and took me to a police station, where they had to call an ambulance. An x-ray was taken at hospital, which confirmed a fracture of my right humerus and a dislocation of the left shoulder," the victim has explained.

Arthur, a German citizen who has a residence permit in Armenia, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that on May 10, during a disobedience action at the intersection of Rubinyants and Paruir Sevak Streets in Yerevan, he was beaten up.

"We blocked the intersection, sat down on the asphalt and began singing songs. About 200 law enforcers attacked the protesters, surrounded them and began driving them to police stations. Many policemen had no badges. It was no matter who was in front of them. They acted very harshly, including against young women," Arthur has stated.
