Pashinyan reports 39 Armenian POWs kept in Azerbaijan

A total of 39 Armenian citizens are still kept in Azerbaijani captivity, the Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, has informed, offering to involve the international community in the returning of them.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 7, 2022, the Azerbaijani State Commission for Prisoners of War (POWs) Affairs reported that eight captured servicemen, including those taken POWs on November 16, 2021, had been returned to Armenia.

Today, the Premier Pashinyan has stated in Parliament that 39 Armenian prisoners still remain in Azerbaijan. "Unfortunately, we still have 39 confirmed POWs; one of them got lost recently, and found himself under Azerbaijanis' control. We are making every possible effort, but I must also say that the most efficient way is to ensure the support and pressure of the international community so that our citizens could return to their homeland as soon as possible," the "News-Armenia" quotes Mr Pashinyan as saying.

He has added that Azerbaijan "is trying to link the return of Armenian POWs, hostages and other detainees with additional conditions." "But we wouldn't agree with this position," the Premier has stated.
