In central Yerevan, opposition announces endless strike

Opposition activists have set up tents in the France Square in Yerevan, declaring a strike with a demand of resignation of the Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 28, supporters of the opposition began their marches to Yerevan from the "Sardarapat" memorial complex in the Armavir Region, and from the village of Aparan in the Aragatsotn Region. On April 26, Pashinyan's opponents also set off for Yerevan from Tigranashen, Ararat Region; and on April 25, another march began in Idjevan, Tavush Region. All the marchers demanded that the status of Nagorno-Karabakh be prevented from being reviewed and that Pashinyan's government be dismissed. On May 1, they came to Yerevan and joined Pashinyan's opponents there. The country's National Security Service (NSS) announced a threat of mass riots.

Oppositionists have set up tents in Yerevan and declared that they "won't leave until they achieve victory." Civil disobedience will begin in the morning, Ishkhan Sagatelyan, the vice speaker of the National Assembly (Parliament) of Armenia from the "Aiastan" opposition faction, has stated, calling on students and all workers to go on strike throughout the country.

Mr Sagatelyan has noted that "May 1 is a historical day of unity; and it will be the start of our victory." He has added that the opposition's actions will be large-scale but peaceful.
