Students of Yerevan come out in support of Nagorno-Karabakh

The flag of Nagorno-Karabakh was raised on the territory of the Yerevan State Medical University as a sign of support for the unrecognized republic, and participants of the action called on students from other universities to take part in a student strike.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on April 13, Nikol Pashinyan announced the possibility of “lowering the bar” on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, referring to the calls of the international community. The Nikol Pashinyan’s statement provoked outrage in Armenia, which resulted in protest actions. On April 22, Nikol Pashinyan announced that he ruled out signing any documents with Azerbaijan without public discussion with residents of Nagorno-Karabakh. Today, opposition supporters have blocked an avenue in Yerevan with the demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in connection with his statements on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Today, students of the Yerevan State Medical University (YSMU) have also held an action in support of Nagorno-Karabakh by raising the flag of the unrecognized republic on the territory of the university, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent has been informed by YSMU intern Aikaz Arutyunyan, a participant of the action.

According to the activist, the main message of the action was to call on students to stand up for Nagorno-Karabakh and start a student strike. Aikaz Arutyunyan notes this is not a political action. “Students of other universities should also react and raise the flags of Artsakh on the territories of their institutes and universities,” the activist emphasizes.

“We do not want our generation to go down in history as the generation that ceded Nagorno-Karabakh,” the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent has been told by Khoren Amirkhanyan, a student at the Yerevan State Medical University. “The young people should show that (they) stand up for Artsakh,” the student has stated.
