Judge of Chechen SC refuses to consider Musaeva's case

Dmitry Gorbovtsov, a Judge of the Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya, has self-withdrawn from considering the case of Zarema Musaeva, referring to close relations with her husband, a former federal judge, Saidi Yangulbaev.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Musaeva was accused of assaulting a law enforcer; and the court arrested her. The Chechen SC considered the request to place her under house arrest due to her health condition, but refused to do so.

Ms Musaeva has been kept at the Grozny SIZO (pre-trial prison) for almost three months already. On March 25, the Russian General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) refused to provide information about Musaeva's health to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), calling it stable, says the Telegram channel of the "Committee against Torture" (CaT).

Lawyers have treated the GPO's refusal to inform the ECtHR about Musaeva's health condition as a violation.

Zarema Musaeva has diabetes with multiple complications; and people with this disease cannot be kept at the SIZO, Abubakar Yangulbaev, a lawyer and a Musaeva's son, has stated.

Russia's withdrawal from the Council of Europe does not relieve it of its obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) for all the violations until September 16 this year, lawyers from the Media Rights Protection Centre** have stated.
