Astrakhan activist fired from school

The school managers have fired Elena Baibekova, a teacher from Astrakhan, who spent five days under arrest after her pacifist picket; she was fired for absenteeism. Baibekova intends to seek reinstatement at work.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 22, even prior to the start of the military operation of Russian troops in Ukraine, Elena Baibekova, an activist, held a solo picket in Astrakhan. On February 27, law enforcers came to her home and detained her. The Sovietsky District Court of Astrakhan sentenced Baibekova to five days of administrative arrest for disobeying the police. After the end of her arrest, at the school where she works, she faced pressure.

Elena Baibekova told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that she was fired. "They have fired me allegedly for absenteeism," she said. A copy of the dismissal order is at the disposal of the "Caucasian Knot".

According to Elena, her dismissal has to do with her activities. "I believe that my dismissal is illegal. I plan to sue the employer and now I am clarifying the issue with lawyers," she has concluded.
