Armenia’s MFA requests an investigation into actions of Russian peacekeepers

Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia has announced that the Azerbaijani troops are still present in the zone of responsibility of Russian peacekeepers. The Armenia’s MFA demanded decisive steps to withdraw the Azerbaijani troops and also announced the need to investigate the actions of the Russian peacekeeping contingent.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 26, the Russian MoD accused Azeri militaries of violating the tripartite agreement on Nagorno-Karabakh. The MoD stated that on March 24 and 25, Azerbaijani militaries entered the responsibility zone of Russian peacemakers and shelled the units of the Karabakh Army from Turkish drones. On March 27, the Russian MoD reported that after the talks, Azerbaijan withdrew its military units from the territory near the Karabakh village of Furukh.

Today, the MFA of Armenia has issued a statement regarding the recent developments in Nagorno-Karabakh. “The Russian Ministry of Defence has spread a message that the Azerbaijani side has withdrawn its units from the area of the settlement of Parukh in Nagorno-Karabakh. Nevertheless, we have to state that the (presence) of Azerbaijani units in the zone of responsibility of the peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation in Nagorno-Karabakh continues,” the Armenia’s MFA declared in its statement.

The MFA of Armenia called on the Russian peacekeeping contingent to take decisive action. “We expect that the peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation in Nagorno-Karabakh will take decisive measures (...) to withdraw the armed forces of Azerbaijan,” reads the message posted on the website of the Armenia’s MFA. The diplomats also announced the need to investigate “the actions of the peacekeeping contingent throughout the entire time period” from the moment when the Azerbaijani troops had violated the line of contact.
