Eight persons detained after protest action in Kobuleti

Seven members of the "Conservative Party" and one activist were detained after a clash at a protest against the opening of an office in Kobuleti.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 18, journalists from the "Mtavari Arkhi" TV Channel were beaten in Zugdidi while trying to film a report on how city cleaning service employees were removing Ukrainian symbols from the "Alt-Info" office door. A filming team of the "Formula" TV Channel was beaten up in Tbilisi.

The "Alt-Info" is an ultra-conservative, nationalistic Internet platform.

On March 22, in the city of Kobuleti, a protest action was held against the opening of the "Conservative Party" office there. Protesters with Ukrainian flags in their hands clashed with unknown people who attacked them, the "Formula" TV Channel has reported.

Law enforcers have detained eight people, including seven members of the "Conservative Party" and one of the protesters.

"At a peaceful rally in Kobuleti, minors were beaten up by activists of the 'Alt-Info' and the Conservative Movement," Tamta Mikeladze, a former director of the NGO "Centre for Social Justice", has stated.

Earlier in Georgia there were several conflicts involving the "Alt-Info". On March 20, its supporters painted in red the office of the "United National Movement" (UNM) located in the city of Marneuli. Offensive inscriptions against the activist, Samira Bairamova, were left on the walls of the office, the "Georgia-Online" reported.

On March 14, Bairamova opposed the opening of an office in the city and painted the flags of Ukraine and the European Union (EU) on the facade. After that, they began threatening her with execution, the "News-Georgia" has reported.
