Two Azerbaijani border guards wounded in a shootout

Border guards were injured while detaining drug trafficking suspects near the border with Iran, the State Border Guard Service of Azerbaijan reported.

The incident occurred on February 21 on the territory of the “Kyalyadyakhnya” Coast Guard Department of the Southern Regional Coast Guard Department of the Azerbaijan’s State Border Guard Service.

The two men ignored the demand of the border guards to stop and tried to escape. During the detention, one of the suspects started shooting from a traumatic pistol and wounded two border guards. In response, the law enforcers opened warning fire. As a result, both suspects were detained. They were identified as residents of the Astara District, who had earlier criminal records for drug use.
