Fear of resumption of fighting affects restoration of Tovuz and Terter

The authorities of Azerbaijan have not yet concluded a peace treaty with Armenia, and therefore, residents of the border villages fear the resumption of combat actions. The situation is calm in the Tovuz, Terter, and Agdjabadi Districts, but restoration work is going slowly, and there are problems with communications, local residents say.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on the night of February 6, Azerbaijan claimed a shelling attack on the village of Gapanly in the Terter District.

The village of Ayubbeili in the Tovuz District of Azerbaijan sometimes becomes the target for Armenian soldiers, says Nazim Mamedov, the former head of the village.

“But last year, shelling attacks have become rare. We are protected by a unit of the Azerbaijani army ... The residents are busy with their daily work, and all institutions are working normally,” Nazim Mamedov said.

He has also added that there are three children in his family, they know what war is, as they were born and grew up to the sound of gunshots.

Farkhad Mamedov, a resident of the city of Agdjabadi, a refugee from Agdam, said there was no particular danger to the residents, since before the war, the villages adjacent to the Armenian positions had stone fences that protected them from bullets.

For 28 years, the family of Farkhad Mamedov could not visit the place where their house in Agdam stayed before the war. Roads to Agdam are open, and some family members have visited that place. “I haven’t been to Agdam yet. I’m afraid that my sick heart won’t be able to stand what I see. We are waiting for permission to start construction in my native yard,” the man said.
