Putin meets Kadyrov amid scandal over threats to Yangulbaev family

The Russian President met Ramzan Kadyrov in Moscow, although earlier, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov had assured that no such meeting had been planned. Ramzan Kadyrov came to the Kremlin amid a scandal caused by the threats voiced by the Chechen authorities against the Yangulbaev family, human rights defenders, and journalists.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on February 1, Adam Delimkhanov, a State Duma member and an adviser to the leader of Chechnya, posted a video on his Instagram page in which he voiced threats in the Chechen language against the members of the Yangulbaev family. Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the State Duma Commission on Parliamentary Ethics should evaluate the Adam Delimkhanov’s statements.

On February 3, the press service for the leader of Chechnya reported that the working meeting between Vladimir Putin and Ramzan Kadyrov took place in Moscow, at which the leader of the Chechen Republic reported to the President of Russia about the socio-economic situation in the republic.

Earlier, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters that the Russian president was not going to meet Ramzan Kadyrov in the coming days. “There are no such plans,” said Dmitry Peskov as quoted on February 2 by the RIA “Novosti”.

One of the Telegram channels opposing to the Chechen authorities suggested that Ramzan Kadyrov was “urgently invited by President Putin to the Kremlin [...] in light of the recent events around the Yangulbaev family.”
