After blackmail with his sister's photo, blogger Khalitov refuses to stop criticizing Kadyrov

Khasan Khalitov, a blogger living in Turkey, has refused to apologize to the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, despite the threats to publish obscene photos of the blogger's sister. Social network users considered it unworthy for Muslims to humiliate women.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 24, Khalitov reported kidnapping of at least five of his relatives, including his father and brothers. On January 24, he received a photo of his naked sister, earlier abducted in Chechnya, accompanied by the demand to stop criticizing Chechen authorities.

He has added that he had earlier received threats about abduction of his sister.

Khalitov has stressed that this is contrary to Chechen customs, which defend married women. However, according to his version, with Kadyrov's advent to power, humiliation of women, including elderly ones, has spread in Chechnya as a tool of putting pressure on oppositionists.

The methods of pressing oppositional bloggers were criticized by social network users.

The last December kidnappings of relatives of Chechen activists became possible because of Kadyrov's confidence that these actions would go unpunished for him, human rights defenders have pointed out.
