Kadyrov responds to Yangulbaev by accusing his family of complicity in terrorism

The head of Chechnya has accused the family of the human rights defender, Abubakar Yangulbaev, of organizing an attack on a former Chechen law enforcer in Turkey and calling for terrorism; in his turn, Abubakar has asked the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) to check Kadyrov's threats for extremism.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 20, 2022, the CaT reported that Zarema Yangulbaeva, the wife of the federal judge, Saidi Yangulbaev, was abducted, in unconscious state, and taken away in cars with license plates bearing the region code corresponding to Chechnya. The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, has confirmed that Zarema Yangulbaeva had been taken to Grozny and stated that the woman had already "earned a criminal article for herself." The Yangulbaevs are waiting for a place "in prison or in the ground," Kadyrov has threatened.

The Yangulbaevs took Kadyrov's statements as a threat, but this is only a statement of facts, the head of Chechnya stated on January 22.

"The Yangulbaevs are calling for terrorism and extremism; they support them. It was they, according to the correspondence leaked into the Internet by third parties, who organized the attack in Turkey on a former Chechen law enforcer. The Yangulbaevs themselves admit in this correspondence that this attack was committed not without their participation, and, judging by the tone, they are quite proud of it. From the same files it follows that the Yangulbaevs as a whole family are unambiguously supporting terrorist groupings and plan to take part in organizing a whole network," Ramzan Kadyrov has stated.

He has added that the Yangulbaevs should be "detained and punished" or "executed," Kadyrov has pointed out. "I believe that they should be detained, as required by the law, and punished. And if they resist, then, they should be liquidated as terrorists' accomplices, who they are," the statement says.

The Kadyrov's post was published on January 22 at 6:42 p.m. Moscow time. A video message of Abubakar Yangulbaev was posted on the Sota Telegram channel on the same day at 11:01 a.m. Moscow time. Commenting on Ramzan Kadyrov's previous statement, Yangulbaev pointed out that no summons had been received at the family's place of residence and advised law enforcement bodies to check Kadyrov's words for extremism, incitement to hatred and discord, and justification of terrorism.
