Three solo pickets held in centre of Makhachkala

On January 17, activists held three solo pickets in the centre of Makhachkala, where they demanded to release journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev and political prisoners.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that activists regularly hold solo pickets in the centre of Makhachkala in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the weekly “Chernovik” (Rough Draft). The recent protest action took place on January 10, and it was held by colleagues and friends of the journalist. Russian journalist and artist Anna Bokler was among the picketers.

According to investigators, Abdulmumin Gadjiev, as well as Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the "Ansar" Charity Fund, and Kemal Tambiev, raised money for terrorists under the pretext of building mosques and helping poor Muslims.

On January 17, at the intersection of Dakhadaev Street and Rasul Gamzatov Avenue in the centre of Makhachkala, activists held three solo pickets with different demands, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent was told by journalist Idris Yusupov, an initiator of one of the solo pickets.

According to Idris Yusupov, the first solo picket was held by Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the “Chernovik”. He came to the picket with the demand to stop the criminal prosecution of journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev and release him from custody. The second solo picket was held by a resident of Makhachkala who was holding in his hands a poster reading: “Kremlin, hands off the Kazakhs.” The third solo picket demanding freedom for political prisoners was held by Idris Yusupov himself.
