Six servicemen arrested in Armenia after returning from captivity

None of the military servicemen, who were taken prisoners of war (POWs) by Azerbaijan on November 16, 2021, was recognized as a victim; six of them, including three officers, have been arrested on charges of violating the order of service.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 16, 2021, clashes broke out on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, including in the Kelbadjar District that came under Baku's control after the 2020 war in Nagorno-Karabakh. Armenian authorities claimed that Azerbaijani troops tried to move forward. According to the Azerbaijani party, Armenian soldiers tried to capture the heights in the border areas. The hostilities were stopped in the evening of the same day after negotiations of the heads of the Ministries of Defence (MoDs) of the two countries with their Russian counterpart Sergey Shoigu.

The Armenia's Investigating Committee has reported that none of the soldiers who were captured POWs on November 16, 2021, was recognized as a victim, the "news.am" wrote on January 17.

Six of those returned from captivity have been charged under Article 365 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (crimes against the order of carrying out special services – violation of the rules for carrying out combat duty or military service). Three of the charged militaries are officers.
