Analysts exclude use of CSTO troops on Armenian-Azerbaijani border

After the use of CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization) peacemakers in Kazakhstan, Nikol Pashinyan, the Armenian Prime Minister, is interested in the use thereof on the Azerbaijani border, but the allies cannot ignore the interests of Baku and will not agree to this, Azerbaijani analysts believe. Both Azerbaijan and Armenia are interested in the presence of Russian peacemakers in the conflict zone, Russian political analysts have pointed out.

According to Natig Djafarli, a member of the political council of the "Republican Alternative" Party, Azerbaijan is against the use of CSTO forces on the Armenian border; and the CSTO member states take this into account, since they have economically beneficial relations with Baku.

Togrul Djuvarly, a member of the Azerbaijani National Public Committee for European Integration, has doubted the reality of using the experience of bringing troops into Kazakhstan on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

The deployment of peacemaking forces in Kazakhstan is the first such action in the CSTO history; this can play for the benefit of Pashinyan and Armenia leadership, Alexander Lukin, the director of the Centre for East Asian and SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) Studies. In his opinion, Russia will continue playing the peacemaking role in Karabakh, since it is "equidistant" from both parties in conflict – Azerbaijan and Armenia.
