Tbilisi: "Alilo" march held as motor rally

Due to the anti-covid restrictions, the traditional "Alilo" Christmas march was held in Tbilisi in the form of a car rally; priests aspersed streets from inside cars. In Kutaisi and Kvareli, the marches took place in the traditional format.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this year, the traditional festive march "Alilo" was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Orthodox Christmas “Alilo” procession traditionally took place in Georgia on January 7th. During the procession, activists raise donations to be then distributed to orphanages, nursing homes, and prisons.

On January 7, the traditional "Alilo march" in Tbilisi streets was not held, but gifts and sweets were collected for children from orphanages, nursing homes and prisoners, the "Georgia Online" has reported.

Clergymen organized a car rally in central Tbilisi; in First Republic Square, a collection of gifts was held, in which both ordinary townspeople and politicians took part. Then, car columns drove to the Holy Trinity Cathedral; clergymen aspersed streets with blessed water, the "News-Georgia' Agency has reported.

In the cities of Kutaisi and Kvareli, traditional walking marches took place; the participants thereof collected sweets and donations to be given to tenants of various aid centres, the "Sputnik Georgia" has informed.
