Complaints of Ingush law enforcers made grounds for persecuting "Memorial"*

Most of the complaints about the absence of due marking, which have formed the basis of the lawsuits demanding to liquidate the "International Memorial" and the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", were lodged by the Ingush branch of the Russian FSB. Human rights defenders treat it as a revenge for supporting the protesters in Magas against the agreement on the realignment of the border with Chechnya.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported referring human rights defenders that the liquidation of the "Memorial" will greatly damage the human rights activities in Northern Caucasus and the defence of Russian citizens' rights at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

According to the "Meduza", the lawsuit demanding the liquidation of the HRC "Memorial" has to do with Ingush law enforcers. Rights defenders associate their persistent complaints about the "Memorial" primarily with the support of the defendants in the case of Magas protests against the change of the Ingush-Chechen that were held in the spring of 2019.

Also, the HRC "Memorial" has won 15 cases on human rights violations in Ingushetia at the ECtHR: the state was found responsible for torture and kidnappings of republic's residents, as well as for unfair trials.

Oleg Orlov, the board chairman of the HRC "Memorial", has treated the "Ingush FSB's denunciations" as a revenge for the support of Magas protesters. However, in his opinion, the point is not only in complaints about the absence of due marking.

"It is unlikely that after the liquidation of the 'Memorial', Russia will cease violating human rights; therefore, we will continue working, probably in some other forms," Natalia Morozova, a lawyer of the HRC, has concluded.
