Two Georgian citizens detained in South Ossetia

The Georgian citizens were detained near the village of Lopani on South-Ossetian border, the Georgian State Security Service (SSS) has informed.

According to the SSS, Georgian authorities are making attempts to release the detainees as soon as possible.

In connection with the incident, the SSS opened a phone hotline. Information about the detention of Georgian citizens will be immediately transferred to the EU Observation Mission and international partners, the Georgian Channel One quoted the SSS on October 28.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported earlier that on October 6, South-Ossetian authorities released two Georgian citizens who had been detained near the village of Ergneti. A day earlier, another citizen was transported to Georgia, who had fallen down during detention and broke his arm.

Let us remind you that on July 3, 2020, the "Caucasian Knot" simultaneously with the international human rights organization Amnesty International (AI) published a report "Behind the barbed wire; human rights violations as a result of 'borderization' in Georgia". The restrictions on crossing the demarcation lines with Abkhazia and South Ossetia violate the rights of residents of border villages who cannot manage their household and are at risk of being detained, the report has stated.
