Film in Ossetian language "Unclenching the Fists" nominated for "Oscar"

Russia has nominated the film "Unclenching the Fists" filmed in North Ossetia by film director Kira Kovalenko, for the "Oscar" Award.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the film "Unclenching the Fists", filmed in North Ossetia by Kira Kovalenko, a graduate of the Sokurov School and a film director from Kabardino-Balkaria, won the Grand Prix of the "Un Certain Regard" author's film contest at the 74th Cannes Film Festival.

The film "Unclenching the Fists" by Kira Kovalenko will be nominated for the "Oscar" by Russia, said Pavel Chukhrai, the chairman of the Russian "Oscar Committee". "This film was a resonant event among my colleagues; everyone has marked it," the RBC (RosBiznesConsulting) has quoted him as saying.

"The film seems to me very important and very up-to-date. It was filmed in the Ossetian language, which is very unusual, and, as it seems to me, very emotional," said Alexander Rodnyansky, a film director and a producer.

The film "Unclenching the Fists" "represents the Ossetian people with dignity; it represents the Caucasus with dignity," said Alexander Sokurov, a film director.
