Turkish authorities appoint state guards to leaders of Chechen Diaspora

After a special operation conducted by Turkish law enforcers, who detained six foreigners accused of espionage and plotting attempts on lives of Chechen oppositionists, authorities decided to provide state security to activists of the Chechen Diaspora living in Turkey have. Chechens in Turkey have strengthened their own security measures, Diaspora members have noted.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 8, six Russian citizens were detained in Turkey, one of whom, according to the Chechen blogger Khasan Khalitov, may have been the organizer of the assassination attempt on him. The source has reported that all the detainees are from Chechnya; they are suspected of plotting attempts on the lives of foreigners living in Turkey.

One of Chechen activists has confirmed that members of the Chechen Diaspora are now under Turkish state protection, and security measures have been strengthened.

Khasan Khalitov has informed that the eldest among the detainees on charges of political murders and espionage is a Chechen, Beslan Rasaev. The blogger has noted that after the successful special operation conducted by Turkish law enforcers, Diaspora members have become more cautious.

In September, Khasan Khalitov accused Chechen law enforcers of kidnapping his relatives living in Chechnya.

The special operation of Turkish law enforcers has contributed to the additional protection of members of the Chechen Diaspora, said Aslan living in Istanbul. According to his story, this is the first such a successful operation by Turkish authorities related to threats received by Diaspora members.
