Rasul Kudaev, prisoner in Kabardino-Balkaria, complains of tortures to Prosecutor Chaika

On Friday, April 13, the Supreme Court of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) extended the custody term for Rasul Kudaev, prisoner of the Nalchik pre-trial facility ("SIZO"), till this October. Kudaev is accused of taking part in the attack on KBR's law enforcement bodies on October 13, 2005.

At the same time, Kudaev's mother brought to the editorial board of the "Caucasian Knot" a copy of the complaint written by Rasul Kudaev to Yuri Chaika, General Public Prosecutor of the Russian Federation.

In his petition Kudaev complains not only of illegal detainment, but of inhuman treatment and tortures applied to him by militiamen aiming to force him into confession of taking part on the attack on Nalchik.

"They beat me with hands and feet, truncheons and rifle butts, they switched me to electricity by connecting wires to little fingers. I lost consciousness many times. They pierced my cheek under the right eye with an awl or a thin screw-driver and twisted it. They beat my heels, cut ears with small scissors and made unknown injections. The agents tried to torture the evidences they needed out of me," Kudaev wrote.
