Prosecutor’s Office responds to reports about an oil spill in Black Sea near Gelendzhik

The Prosecutor’s Office began a check after reports on social media about an oil spill in the Black Sea near Gelendzhik. The local authorities ruled out the version of an oil leak from a dry cargo ship, and Instagram users demanded to find and punish the guilty persons.

The Southern Transport Prosecutor’s Office reported about launching a check concerning the oil spill in the Black Sea near Gelendzhik. Meanwhile, the Gelendzhik Mayoralty reported that the earlier disseminated information that the oil spot in the Black Sea was formed after a leak from a dry cargo ship did not correspond to reality.

It became known about the oil spill in the Black Sea near Gelendzhik after posts on social media. In particular, on September 27, a post about the oil spill was posted in the Instagram public account “gelendzhikcity”. The video depicts three elderly women who show signs of contamination on their skin and hair. According to the women, when swimming in the Black Sea, they got into the oil spot.

In their comments under the post, social media users demanded to punish the persons responsible for the oil spill.

“Why don’t they sound the alarm? How can be something like this left unpunished?” asked user miiiya.muuuur. “What do the authorities and the police think! Tough measures must be taken. They are simply killing the sea and animals,” claimed user krivosheeva2901.
