Battalion exercises begin at training grounds in Southern Russia and South Ossetia

Today, bilateral battalion tactical exercises have been simultaneously launched at four training grounds of the Southern Military District, and they will last for a week, until September 18, the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) reports. Eight battalion tactical groups will gather at the combined-arms training grounds of the Volgograd Region, Karachay-Cherkessia, the Chechen Republic, and at a military base in South Ossetia.

More than 6000 soldiers and officers take part in the military exercises, with involvement of about 800 pieces of weapons and military vehicles, including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, artillery pieces and multiple launch rocket systems, as well as more than 40 aircraft and helicopters.

“During the exercises, the military units will for the first time work out new methods of tactical actions as part of various types of reconnaissance-fire and strike complexes, including counter-battery, aviation, and sniper complexes,” the Russian MoD reports in its statement.
