Azerbaijan counts 3890 missing persons since start of Karabakh conflict

Since the beginning of the Karabakh conflict, a total of 3890 residents of Azerbaijan, including 719 civilians, have gone missing, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has informed.

"August 30 is marked as the International Day of Enforced Disappearances, which makes the problem faced by thousands in Azerbaijan for 30 years," the MFA has stated, noting that since the start of the Karabakh conflict, "3890 people (3171 militaries and, 719 civilians) in Azerbaijan are still treated as missing."

The Azeri MFA has accused Armenian authorities that, "despite the explicit ban by the international humanitarian law on hostage-taking," 267 civilians in Azerbaijan (including 29 children, 98 women and 112 elderly people) have not yet been released."
