Abkhaz authorities estimate damage caused by downpours at 80 million roubles

The total damage from heavy downpours that hit Abkhazia in July and August has amounted to more than 80 million roubles. The disaster affected 231 houses and 242 social objects. Authorities continue calculating the losses.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the evening on July 4, residents of Sukhumi had an electricity outage caused by strong wind. The hurricane cut off power and trolleybus wires and fell down about 50 trees.

The Abkhaz authorities are paying compensations to the residents of the region who have suffered from heavy downpours on July 4, and at night on July 26-27 and August 16. The total damage is estimated at over 80 million roubles, Alexander Ankvab, the Prime Minister of Abkhazia, has stated.

According to Mr Ankvab, the disaster damaged 231 houses and 242 other objects. Authorities continue calculating the damage, says the message posted on August 20 on the website of the President of Abkhazia.

He has clarified that so far, compensations have been paid only to residents of the Gulrypsh District in the amount of more than four million roubles.
