Analysts treat Azerbaijan's claims to Iran as justified

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has served a note of protest to the Iranian ambassador for the passage of trucks through Nagorno-Karabakh without a Baku's permit. Iran should reckon with the position of Baku on the supply of goods to Karabakh, Azeri analysts have agreed.

"The ambassador was informed about the facts of illegal passage of Iranian vehicles to Karabakh," the MFA has stated.

In November 2020, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's Supreme Leader, stated that this country recognized the Azerbaijan's right to "liberate" its territories, but pointed out the need to ensure the safety of the Karabakh population. The Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani, also called for the restoration of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. At the same time, he noted that Tehran is in favour of resolving the conflict peacefully.

In the above note, Azerbaijan has expressed its dissatisfaction with the fact that transport moves from Iran to Karabakh regularly without Baku's permits.

The discontent with the Iran's transport links with Karabakh is justified, says Togrul Djuvarly, a member of the Azerbaijani National Public Committee for European Integration.

Iranian authorities must respect the Azerbaijan's sovereignty if they want to use the benefits of economic cooperation, said Tofig Tyurkel, an analyst with the "Turan" News Agency.

Let us remind you that after the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in the fall of 2020, Iranian authorities announced their readiness to mediate in settlement thereof.
