Alizamin Salaev goes on hunger strike in Azerbaijani colony

Alizamin Salaev, a member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), has announced a hunger strike in the colony, demanding to provide him with medical care. Salaev's health has worsened, his son has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that relatives of Alizamin, who is serving his term on charges of libel and insult after spreading a video criticizing a policeman in social networks, had complained that his health condition has deteriorated sharply; however, he receives no medical care. After their complaints, Salaev received some medical help, but then again complained that it was absent.

Alizamin Salaev's hunger strike became known in the evening on August 4, his son, Ogtai Salaev, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"I spoke with my father on the phone on August 3. Then, he complained about the state of health and absence of medical care. Last night, the father, through two other prisoners, who had their phone calls according to the schedule, informed that he was on a hunger strike. He feels even worse. My father has a cardiovascular disease; earlier, he had a stent placed into his heart artery. Besides, he has respiratory failure and enlarged liver. He is not even placed into the colony medical unit, to say nothing about the prison hospital. The situation in his barrack is awful. One hundred inmates are kept together in the heat of +40. There are only a few fans, but they only warm up the air still further. We are very worried about our father," said Ogtai Salaev.

  • Rights defenders treat case of missing Movsar Umarov as typical for Chechnya
