Chechen resident sentenced for assisting in terrorist activities

A court found Mokhyamadkhan Abdulvakhabov, a resident of Chechnya, guilty of transferring money to a friend for travelling to Syria and sentenced him to six years of imprisonment in a penal colony.

The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don concluded that in May 2014, Mokhyamadkhan Abdulvakhabov, a native of the Romanov farm in the Rostov Region, who lived in Chechnya, stayed in the village of Chechen-Aul in the Argun urban district. Out of wish to help his friend, Mokhyamadkhan Abdulvakhabov gave him upon request 1500 roubles and another amount of 8500 roubles from other people for travelling to Syria and joining an illegal armed formation (IAF), a press officer of the Southern District Military Court has informed the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent today.

A 30-year-old Mokhyamadkhan Abdulvakhabov was accused of assisting in terrorist activities. “Mokhyamadkhan Abdulvakhabov was found guilty and sentenced to six years of imprisonment in a common-security penal colony,” said the press officer of the Southern District Military Court. He added that the defendant pleaded not guilty.
